What we do:
Options in Education (OIE) OIE was formed by a group of Islanders who are deeply committed to the success of the Vineyard’s youth. Since its launch in 1994, OIE has been working with MVPCS (Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School) to provide an alternative education option to local families, one that offers a self-directed approach to learning and caters to each child’s interests and learning style. The school currently serves 180 students in grades K-12. It has gained a reputation for academic excellence thanks to the dedicated parents, educators, students, and community leaders who believe in its mission. We aim to support and promote innovative educational programs on Martha's Vineyard, especially for children, raise funds for a charter school, operate a summer program offering educational activities for children, and create employment opportunities for young people.
Where and When:
You may contact the President of Options in Education, Peter Steedman, at [email protected] or call the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School at (508) 693-9900.
Our Goal:
OIE is launching a $5.2 million capital campaign in support of the Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School. This Campaign represents an extraordinary opportunity to significantly impact the lives of our students and the broader community. The objectives of the Campaign are to:
Build a 915-square-foot addition to the existing building. We desperately need space for additional classrooms and quiet meeting spaces.
Build a 3,360 square-foot Barn. We need an ample gathering space for morning meetings, a recreational area, and a place for school events without having to continue to rent and travel to different locations on the island.
