What we do:
Martha's Vineyard Ocean Academy offers week-long overnight sailing experiences aboard the historic tall ship Shenandoah. By recognizing, utilizing, and enhancing young people’s strengths, we teach them to lead. They learn the importance of working as a group, the nature of bravery, and the joy of singing. They become familiar with every part of the ship and master new knots. They discover independence and that problem-solving can be fun. The experience instills a deep love of nature, the ocean, and our planet that remains with them for the rest of their lives.
Where and When:
Martha's Vineyard Ocean Academy's office is at 110 Main Street, Vineyard Haven, MA. We are there during typical business hours. Our sailing season is from mid-June to mid-October.
Our Goal:
As Shenandoah nears her 60th season, serving 40 years past her expected lifespan, we are rebuilding this unique educational asset to grow her mission and transform the hearts and minds of youth for generations to come. Together, we can ensure that the hundreds of youth who benefit from their experiences aboard Shenandoah don’t lose their opportunity. We are amidst a comprehensive campaign, allocating $5.25 million for construction and $1.75 million for an endowment and program expansion.
