How it works for consumers


Consumers purchase "Lift Certificates" (or gift certificates) from local businesses via the Martha's Vineyard Bank Lift Certificate Retail Store at to use now or in the future.

Once a Lift Certificate transaction is complete, consumers will immediately receive a notification via email with a unique validation code, and then the Lift Certificate will be mailed to them via regular mail. Lift Certificates may not be reissued and should be treated as cash.


Consumers will contact the business directly to make their purchase.

Redemption of “Lift Certificates” may be governed by individual merchant rules and policies and consumers will review that merchant’s rules and policies prior to purchasing.


How it works for merchants

The online "Lift" Retail Store, at, will simplify the purchase and distribution of certificates for merchants.

To participate, each business will access a simple online process that verifies they are a local business and then configure their certificates.

Martha's Vineyard Bank will assume the full cost of setting up and running the "Lift" Retail Store.

If the business is not already a customer, they must open a deposit account in order to receive payments.
